Being at home all day makes losing the your COVID-19 weight and stay healthy more difficult. One of the challenges many of us have faced during the COVID-19 pandemic has been weight gain. The time we spent indoors during quarantine has caused many of us to gain weight due to lack of activity.
Now more than ever, it’s important to watch what you eat and maintain a healthy lifestyle. According to the CDC, “A study of COVID-19 cases suggests that risks of hospitalization, intensive care unit admission, invasive mechanical ventilation, and death are higher with increasing BMI.”
Here I share some recommendations to stay active, even if you are working from home, and lose the COVID-19 weigh for good:
TRY TO MOVE MORE:
Even if you are working around the house all day, you can still exercise. Lunchtime is a good opportunity to go for a walk in your neighborhood. You can also try exercising with resistance bands, which you can find on Amazon; or do one of the many exercises you can find on YouTube.
EAT HEALTHY:
On your day off, make a shopping list and try to buy healthy snacks. Being at house all day can make you feel anxious and want to eat all the time. It is important that you have healthy food and snacks around the house.
TAKE A BREAK:
During your work hours, try to take at least two 10-minute breaks to stretch out and relax. Stress can also make you anxious, and anxiety will make you eat more. A few minutes to stretch out and do some quick exercises is highly beneficial. I really like this short Yoga video. I have done it several times during my breaks.
SEEK HELP:
There are many weight loss programs, such as Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, which can offer you support during these very difficult times. Going to a meeting every week and hearing how others handle their challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic is a great source of ideas.
DRINK LOTS OF WATER:
One of the most important things you can do to control your cravings is to drink lots of water. If you find it difficult to drink a lot of water, add a little lemon.
GIVE FASTING A TRY:
Intermittent fasting is great for losing weight, keeping your blood sugar levels low, and controlling cravings. Here you can find more information about the health benefits of intermittent fasting on the Healthline website.
